Busy busy busy

Don't you love it when you tell yourself you're going to do something, commit to it, and then don't actually keep up with it?

I do that all the time. In fact, I did it with this, and with all the Anime I watch, and TV shows I start, and books I read.

This year's been better than most, though. I've been through 11 books so far. Three books ahead of my reading goal for the year, but not as far ahead as I want to be.

I'm also finished with Season 1 of Sword Art Online, which I'm watching through for the first time. That whole love story thing people talk about all the time is very overdone, but I'm still really enjoying it. Heck, love stories are one of my favorite parts of anime, and for sure my favorite part of Full Metal Panic.

I've also made TONS of progress on Hiccup. I've got both of the costume base pieces done, just need to put the false front on the pants so they match the style of the ones he wears in the movie. The brown "Dragon scale" armor he wears is almost done too. I have to figure out my boots situation before I can continue with it any further, which means it's on hold until I've worked a few weeks and have a little spending money.

Aside from that, I have to do all the small armor pieces, the armor on his forearms, the long belt at his waist, the upper arm pads, and the large black wrap-around shoulder armor piece that also holds the pop-up back fin part.

And then eventually maybe a helmet. Maybe. That's probably going to be a bigger project than I'd hoped, with a few different sets of mixed fabrics.

So far I've used a cotton spandex for the shirt and pants, brown vinyl for the main armor piece, and black stretch pleather for the cover over the vinyl to make the black parts of the armor.

At this point, it's at a standstill because I need someone to help me take the parts I've already finished and measure/draw the top piece onto a disposable item of clothing so I can match the dimensions of my back with the piece of armor. It's hard to get measurements and proportions of your own back, ensuring it matches with what you've already made, and still fitting with the proportions of the character.

Oh, and I have to buy a wig.

Otherwise, it looks like I'm pretty on-track to wear it to Denver Comic Con in June. The hardest parts are done, that's for sure. Though the structure of the helmet has been throwing me off the whole time. In the movie and certain screenshots, it looks as if it's solid, but it also looks like it's made of leather, and shouldn't be as hard as it is.

The struggles of Cosplay, though. Right?

In the meantime, I've become addicted to Hyrule Warriors. Even though Zelda has been my favorite game series, I was a bit worried that Hyrule Warriors would abandon so much of the gameplay style that I'd hate every minute of it. In all honesty, I love what Warriors brought to the table. It's fun, it's engaging, and it's a fresh new take on what it means to be a Zelda game. It manages to maintain the same overall feel of a Zelda game, while being an entirely different style of game.

Actually, Hyrule warriors is probably the first game I've actively wanted to complete to 100%. I have friends that want to do the same thing for games like Fallout, Dishonored, Skyrim, and I've watched them do it, too. I just can't dedicate that much time to a game. At least, I didn't think so until Warriors hit.

I guess it is about time I get into doing that level of gameplay though, especially with the announcement of No Man's Sky coming out on June 21st. I'm going to lose a LOT of free time to that game... Thankfully it comes out two days after Denver Comic Con is over, so I won't have to worry about gaming instead of cosplay work at that time.

SO MUCH COOL STUFF HAPPENING.
