In-Depth

Well, here we are, post #2.

I suppose if I'm ever going to attract any attention on this thing, I should probably talk more about the kinds of things I'm interested in, so you can get a feel for what it is you should expect moving forward.

To start, you can pretty well classify me as a nerd. That's not a word I'd take too lightly, if I were you.

For me to lay out all the things I'm interested in would probably take several weeks, and would still be grossly incomplete. I suppose one has to begin somewhere, though.

I'm really into puzzles. Unusually so. Most of my favorite games have some sort of puzzle-solving element to them. Whether it's a 3D puzzler like The Talos Principle or Portal, or a more relaxed and consistent puzzle game like The Witness, or a story-based puzzle adventure game like the Myst series, Monkey Island or Deponia, I will get so interested that I play through the majority of the game in one sitting. Tales of Monkey Island episodes took me around 4 hours on average.

This carries over into my physical entertainment as well. With the surging popularity and accessibility of escape rooms, being able to take all the puzzle skills I've gained playing games has been one of my favorite things I've done to date. I've been a part of groups that have set records at rooms, and come close to setting records at others. Something about solving a series of mind and physical puzzles to achieve a tangible goal induces an almost euphoric sensation.

As much as I enjoy escape rooms, you can only dedicate so much time to escaping from a room. I spend much more of my time reading and playing video games. Recently I've been reading exclusively transhumanism and post-human based sci-fi, but I've historically read a lot of fantasy. The most recent reading I've done has also had thriller elements that I found engaging in new ways.

Video games wise I play a wide variety. In addition to the aforementioned puzzle games, I also play a lot of shooters, and a limited selection of MMOs. Most notably, I recently picked up the Guild Wars 2 expansion Heart of Thorns, which has kept me occupied on the video games front.

But of course, in keeping with the sci-fi theme, I'm eagerly anticipating the release of No Man's Sky.

Aside from video games, reading, and escape rooms, I've recently discovered a passion for cosplay, which is a great adventure that's easy to keep up with. My current big project that's awaiting tax return investment is a Hiccup costume from How to Train Your Dragon 2. When that project is further underway, expect to see some work in progress photos from the various steps involved.

I guess that's kind of me in a nutshell though. There are many MANY more things I'm interested in, but this gives a good idea of how many things I get myself wrapped up in. I have many unfinished games, fewer unfinished books, and an uncountable number of unfinished writing and art projects that sit around without any progress for months at a time.

Maybe if I get some sort of accountability going here, I'll be able to get more stuff moving. I guess time will tell, right?
